Hindu : 25 Mar - Editorial : Government choice to be biased on Celeb Criminals

The article is about the intensity of our thoughts as a society when it comes to problems faced by celebrities. Author points out that our government should be extra careful if its actually considering the plea from different sections of high society on pardoning Mr.Sanjay dutt for the conviction he's been charged with. Author seems to be practical when he reasons why such partiality would ruin the fundamentals of law which treats everyone equal irrespective of their position amongst us.

The crime committed by Sanjat Dutt is not a grave one but one should keep in mind that the weapon which he possessed could have easily caused unspeakable terror if it had fallen in wrong hands. Author also reasons whether such plea would be entertained if a vedict was given to similar crime but to an offender whom people know. Author ridicules the very idea of such a reaction from many high esteemed personality show empathy towards Sanjay Dutt because first of all the trial had taken almost 20 years when the verdict made little witness to those who have lost thier lives and those who lost their loved ones. Though some of those liberals point out that Sanjay had already done 18 months in jail waiting for the final verdict, Author skillfully uses the same logic for those behind bars who had been patiently waiting for thier chance of fair trail even for longer duration. And just because Sanjay Dutt had done a role on Gandhigiri in a movie which presumely states that  it's an act of fiction, it just shows once ignorance if they claim that particular character to be taken into consideration to let Sanajt Dutt leave free.

This is rather a conclusive tone from the Author that it would be nice if the onGovernment acts on its own in taking such decision but not rely on ones' popularity  in putting him behind bars.
