This article thrashes the behavior of Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister on prohibiting Srilankan Players to play in IPL matches to be held in Chennai. Chauvinism is the extreme word used in the title as well as in the conclusive tone of the article all the way. Author vents out his frustration for bringing politics into sports and Jayalalitha has ignited a fresh protest by taking such a step. She submitted a statement to the central government that considering the tensions among the people of Tamil Nadu over Srilankan outrageous treatment on native tamilians, there could be an outbreak of law and order in the stadiums where IPL matches would be conducted and so to keep everything smooth she suggested that no Sri Lankan player shall be permitted to enter Tamil Nadu.
BCCI on other hand, to play a safe game, not only agreed to Jayalalitha but also passed out a decision to ban all Sirlankan players from playing this season's IPL. Though the central government is being nonchalant to the current situation, its is quite evident that such a decision would not only deteriorate the spirit of sportmanship but also damage our international relations with neighboring countries in the long run for showing such extreme chauvinism. Author explains that having hatred towards a country for its wrong doing is different from banning it's players to play in an international sport. He also cites an example where our country had to face a similar situation with Pakistan but at that time, BCCI had requested the teams to not buy any players from Pakistan which to some extent subsided the tension between two countries at least in that season of IPL. But such a step is impossible for now as the auction had already been done and many players from Sri Lanka were bought at higher price. Such a decision from BCCI would surely out these teams into helpless situation and would eventually result in unpredictable match outcomes.
On the whole, Author condemns Jayalalitha's decision and hopes that though nothing can be undone now, at least in future such extreme patriotism for no reason should be little encouraged. A pragmatic approach in dealing such situations would be more wise to come up with a logical conclusion.
