Hindu : 29 Mar - Editorial : Prejudice over Terrorists

This article starts off  with a conclusive statement 'Once a terrorist, always a terrorist' logically harsh but practically beleived by all the army personnel who come across those who come in to surrender. Author explains how such prejudices over terrorists are doing more harm in the inter relations between th police and terrorists. Citing an example, he brings out the arrest of a terrorist near the border of Orissa by Special cell against terrorism and they claim that the arrested terrorist was a key player in recent blasts and was in a plan to avenge the death of Afzal Guru. How ever the local police have a complete different story. They said that this terrorist was travelling along with his family and that his intention was clear that he wanted to surrender. they reason out asking why would a man take his family along with him if he was getting into a suicide mission. Special still stands to their claims and explain that this could be one of the ways of travelling with family to avoid suspision. The local police tend to show some courtesy for the courage this terrorist to surrender and is requesting the government to consider him as a surrendered one instead of a captured terrorist.

Author also points out how valuable would a captured terrorist be even though he surrendered as he could speak out all his group's future plan of attacks and also act as key evidence in their previous attacks in the past. He also says that the circumstances because of which he had leave his exile also should be taken into consideration. He also reasons that the way he will be treated once he surrenders will also have a great impatct on his fellow companions who would wish to follow that path. As this point Author ends the article with a suggestion that Government should interefere in ideal conflicts like this in avoiding prejudices over wrong doers and come up with a pragmatic solution which would increase the confidents of those terrorists who wish to leave their past behind with justifiable term in jail and subsequently start a new life all over again.
