This is an objective and far more factual article from the author who is largely concerned on the present environmentalism which has lost its actual purpose of existence. Author takes us back in time where the first protest for protecting the native environment started in India which was the Chipko moment where a group of tribes stopped those who were in their region to cut the trees for trade. Author then takes us through an extensive journey giving examples on how the whole Chipko movement ignited and gave birth to many environmentalists and how many moments started in all over the country to save nature from the brutal hands of industrialization He also talks about the attitude of those who were against such environmental Acts and how they portrayed the environmentalist as socialists who were stopping our country from development and that they were being funded by foreign countries who wanted our country to remain backward.
Succumbing to such allegation the Environmentalism in India took a back them and the result is severely painful as many trees were cut, many forest vanished and many natural resources depleted and it had gone to the extent that our National Animal, Tiger is now in danger of extinction. He then explains that the very excuse that such encroachments are needed for the region's development is to be questioned if this situation is to be handled in a diplomatic way. The whole idea of industrialization and development seems to be in the hands of few wealthy industrialists and politicians who are least bothered about the loss of nature with such exploitation. Environmentalists are bound to be shown in bad light because they are the first and unfortunately the only ones who question the credibility of land mining or new erection of plants in a place which previously belonged to the natives and flourished with greenery.
Karnataka Land mining was shown as a direct example of political influence in deteriorating a region and Narmada project was mentioned to show how the environmentalists were sidelined in controversies to shut their mouths.Author shows pity in the present scenario which our country is going through in the name of industrialism which promised development but sadly nature had to pay heavy price in the form of high air pollution, deforestation, dried up rivers and worse extinction of nativity. Author then talks about a possible solution if a person who gives equal importance to environment is given power to drive this country. He says the of all the prime ministers we had , Nehru was the only one who empathized on environment which had resulted in a special cabinet post for environmental protection. Other prime ministers who were mostly economists gave a deaf ear to such cries as they would calculate everything with a balance sheet and believed that economic growth would eventually result in a health country. He then quotes Gandhi's statement that just like England which spread in the whole world making a mark of its own in all its colonies, India would also flourish if it followed its previous ruler - the west. However Author sighs that though Our Countries followed the west, it could not turn into practicality as England had many resources coming from most of its colonies but India had to rely on its own resources.
Author ends the note with a blind hope that some day a new Chipko movement will start that would eventually end such brutal behavior of Mankind towards nature in India.
