Hindu : 30 Apr - Editorial : Road to Damascus

Just like in old days; people still suffer in the name of equality, countries struggle in the name of power and peace vanishes in the name of justice. Syria falls in to the right example with this article where all the events leading Syria into a dangerous Civil War have be rigorously explained. Even a twice intervention from U.N first by Mr.Kofi Anin followed by Mr.Brahmini could not end the suffering of Syrians. In a country with about 35 million population, 3.5 million are now refugees outside the border while 7 million live in a dying hope to receive aids by being inside the country. Author clearly points out how the government had taken extremist steps since 2011 by using violence to suppress protests from the opposition. While this being only one side of the coin, whats more damaging is the surrounding countries and the west's enthusiasm to resolve this conflict in Syria of course for their own regional benefits.

Author explains how Mr. Brhamini had given a five step systematic procedure to end this crisis in which non interference of the outsiders and shunning of the ruling government's dream of winning this war by military were very crucial. Author also briefed few of the many atrocities committed by Syrian government to suppress the revolution and violence being the main culprit why Syria was not able to follow the path of Lybian liberation movement. However giving so much information, explaining how all the important players in this war are making their moves with self explained selfish motives, author hopes that at least the major opposition would be united looking at the unending pain of common man in their own country and would stand up to end this invisible civil war diplomatically through peace negotiations

Hindu : 30 Apr - Editorial : hot spot in a spot

The western ghats are now in danger from the monsters of industrialization and tribal development. the high level working group has been asked to study the recommendations given by Western Ghats Ecological expert panel. though western ghats had been undisturbed even in the modern era, there is a possibility that all four states, in whose jurisdiction western ghats fall in, might go ahead and pollute this natural savior of rains as well as flora and fauna in the name of westernization and need of more land for irrigation and economic development. Especially in the regions where hydro projects had been sanctioned because any gross negligence would result in heavy loss of land and life in these areas so the group is asked to rely in evidence collected in real time ground apart of images from the satellite.

Though the group is having a soft corner towards the irrigation projects but reducing the Ecological sensitive areas to lesser space then recommended by the WGEEP, it should also keep in mind that too much of human interview would eventually result in the monsoon cycle which had been regulated by these very ghats. article ends with a suggestion to consider one of the key points given by the group that the 6 states should be financially compensated for not disturbing the ecology, a point which is practically valid and reasonable if we are to have a land which had life.

Hindu : 30 Apr - Editorial : Indigenising Defence

Defense procurement procedure, a document which suggests how India from now on would procure artillery and military equipment and war machine is a subject in discussion since there is a new path taken by the government. With the experience of cheap quality military machines and the corruption involved by the middle in arms deal during foreign export, the defense procurement wheel has come back to point of origin that is to go for in house procurement. This was suggested based on two key points, one being the increase in strength for in house manufacturing and the other creating a strong base for arms manufacturing within the country. This suggests that a proposal to buy war machines would be the last resort only after a procurement search was extensively done within the country.

Though this would not have initial advantages, since foreign countries would not share there technologies to build machines in our country instead of a direct export, few ideas were also stated. An fdi would in a way help the foreign companies to invest in arms manufacturing by sharing their design. how ever the stake are too high in cases like this. It is well known that in house manufacturer like DRDO did not give any fruitful results, a well practice of indegnisation at least from now on would give better results. Article also suggests that an involvement by both public and private sectors in arms manufacturing would make strong base within the country.

Hindu : 26 Apr - Editorial : Debate, not disrupt

Parliament is a place where people's representatives talk, debate and resolve prime issues which can positively stabilize our country. But as seen in live television over and over again, It has become custom for the parties to play the blame game wasting lot of time and public money ending in an utter disrupt leaving chronic issues to time saying time would heal everything. This article talks on how such behavior from both the opposition and the ruling is degrading the respect of parliament and questioning the very purpose of holding sessions. Giving examples of how the winter sessions got washed in the constant argument of who to name responsible for the scams of Coalgate, 2G and more which are of serious threat to our country's one sided economy. And every time oppositions demands has been to demand Prime Minister's resignation.

Article suggests that one of the main reason for such disrupt is because of vast number of issues,  opposition had to handle against our ruling government. Though there are so many strong evidences which directly link Prime Minister's involvement in decisions taken for 2G allocation, opposition only cribs more on the loyalty of Prime Minister instead of demanding a continual investigation from CBI which the government is voluntarily interfering in. Its a know fact that opposition itself is facing so many problems internally with Modi vs the rest issues, but in parliament its the opposition's right to demand justice for all the scams done instead of going personal over the leaders who are involved. With the speaker making it very clear that he would expect more of a debate from the representative rather than violent outbursts this time, article ends with a hope that this time parliament will have some logical conclusions to long and unanswered questions of corruption and eventually record a higher percentage of working hours in the parliament.

Hindu : 26 Apr - Editorial : Cheat funds again

Short cut to Money making always has a dangerous end. but these days it turns out that these short cuts no longer has an end but mislead everyone with a blind end and eventually start up under a new name and lure many to follow the same.Interestingly its not the starters who come up with such dubious plans to loot people in the illusion of high return or the common public who invest their savings, who get their share of profits in the end but the politicians who indirectly support such scheme, middle men who publicize such schemes and smart brains who plague one's mind to invest more, who have the last laugh. This article is about the recent financial scam of Sharadha Group of west Bengal. Firstly, such scams prevail because the ruling party never takes responsibility for a closure or a prevention of such highly additive financial schemes of private companies even though some of the politicians get accused by the one's caught that such fraud was never possible without their involvement.

Secondly, One should also be in complete sense that easy money always pose high risk. Article condemns government's decision to refund the investors who had lost almost Rs.30,000 crore by investing in Sharadha group. It complete injustice for the tax payers if their hard earned money is being used as a repayment to the victims of a financial fraud, which should not even happen in the first place if preventive measures were taken by the government. It's good that RBI had recently declared heavy punishment for those who not get involved in such financial fraud but this did not stop a fraud scheme like the ones of Sharsdha Group. Article says that one main reason why this could have not been prevented is because of the public's least interest to invest their savings in a more secured institution like banks. Author ends with an ideal note which our financial regulator bodies fail to accomplish that when the public is made aware of financial inclusion thus improving  financial literacy, such frauds should never arise. It true to some extent but at the end of the day, when government can't stop at the very beginning when such private companies come forward luring public, whats the point in blaming the public who just wanted their money doubling up.

Hindu : 25 Apr - Editorial : Restraint is the key

It's always been Indian vs China no matter how deeply both countries try to resolve the issues. Even if the countries have successfully formed a collaboration through BRICS, maintained good relation in goods imports and exports, taken equal measures on preventing piracy and most importantly tried to keep aside the border as to not influence their mutual respect, Military army exchange programs to train the armies; incidents like the one in Ladakh where Chinese armies have barged into India for almost ten kilometers over take all the successes India had achieved with China so far. Even though the president of China Mr.Xi had shown interest in resolving a decade long border issue between India and China, his words seem to completely contradict the way Chinese army had acted in the past one week. there had been continuous talk since 2005 to resolve this issue and come to a logical conclusion of freezing the line of control between the nations but in vain in spite of setting up a Border management mechanism.

Now that there had been a visit scheduled for Chinese President who would have his first trip after he had come into power, article suggests that it would be wise if the peace talks come to a positive end and resolved as hid trip would be highly influenced towards this issue if necessary steps quickly are not taken by both nations. Surely this visit will decide whether Chinese president would keep his word given to our prime minister Mr. Manmohan Singh that a rational and fair solution is possible for resolving border conflicts between India and China

Hindu : 18 Apr - Editorial : Resources below, Turmoil above

This article talks on how Central African Republican is facing a serious civic rule crisis with constant protest from the opposition to dissolve the existing government for the sake of peace and equality of rights among the minority. It starts with how various groups from a long time have played their part and thus become directly responsible for a troubled modern history for Africa. Though a democratic government was formed in 2003, the same president had won the election even on 2005 and 2011 yet he failed to improve the condition in his own country by means of improving standard of living or education and worst preventing terrorist protests. Because of his in efficiency, we are told that over 175,000 people have been displaced and that situation will tun intense if an immediate steps are taken to save 4.5 million of Central Africa.

Apart from central Africa's regular problems, there seems to be other external problems where child terrorist army are a threat. Though many of them die at young age, a country so poor cannot bear such kind of a loss from a younger generation under the name of political freedom. though a new president would be elected soon, the country is worried since its a muslin and he would be concentrating more on his own muslim minority living in that country. Article ends with a fact that CAR being a country highly rich in resources is poor in terms of resources and thu should take the help of peace keepers before it crosses the point of no return keeping in mind the lives of million who still believe that good days are ahead.

Hindu : 18 Apr - Editorial : Hit by Violence

When democracy is restricted to a piece of paper and violence becomes the speech in an election campaign, one seems to lose hope in fair and safe elections. This is exactly whats happening in Pakistan as Tehreek e Taliban had been constantly attacking almost all political parties who were busy in the upcoming elections. From suicide bombing to targeted killings, Pakistan is under constant threat from Talibans especially the parties in the ruling government who had become immediate victims of terrorism because of their inefficient reforms and most importantly for being supportive to the west. This article gives the list of all the politicians from political parties who have been attacked by TTP. Though two parties Pakistan Muslim League and Tehreek-e-Insaaf were portrayed to be Taliban friendly, a recent attack on one of the political meetings of PML had seeped deep in similar fear even in supportive parties.

Article explains on how such involvement of  violence can  uproot the foundation of democracy and put the whole country in danger. No political party condemned these attacks as they would know that such provocation will worsen their current situation. And those who aren't attacked are taking the advantage of this silence and continuing their campaign to form government by winning the next elections. But the only concern even if a party with the help of extended support from terrorist, win an election by all means, will it be ok if terrorists start ruling the country, turning the so called Pakistan in to a mini Afghanistan.

Hindu : 17 Apr - Lead : Double speak on electoral reforms

Once upon a time there was an Election Commission of India which would go to any extent to expose a corrupt politician if he had spend money illegally for his or her election campaign, the punishment was also severe with a mere disqualification to the extent of being exiled from politics. This would perhaps be remembered a fairy tale story if public don't wake up and challenge government's attempt to curb ECI power  in the name of prevailing peace during elections.Recently there was an appeal in supreme court on behalf of government against ECI that it should now start considering politicians submission of their monetary account as a plain reading instead of thorough check and recheck questioning the authentication of such financial statements. With the advent of time and technology, it had become more transparent and doable for ECI in making the expenditure of a political campaign with the help of Income tax department and other independent bodies and more over they were made public for the citizens to choose wisely through elections. Though Press conference of India commended ECI's work for exposing a correct politician for illegally distribute monet during her campaign , and was disqualified even after she won, the attitude change in short span when government realized the real power when ECI has exposed the concept of 'Paid news' through a brave reporter against Ashok Chavan. He was then contesting for Chief Minister role in Maharashtra. Eventually he won, and he pleaded for his innocence in a lower court and then high court but was rejected for obvious reasons. The amount of money which flows during an election campaign is no secret. And we are in an era where politics is considered as the most successful business with heavy return on Investment so politicians are business who would mind spilling money even if its for a mere Panchayat election.

Now that appeal has been raised in supreme court by the government which had changed its good opinion on ECI to a fearful view that ECI is not being fare to the so called innocent politicians, article urges all the social acitivists, NGO and civilians who feels responsible to raise their voice and condemn this double minded behavior of the government. What ECI had been doing is an eye opener and an open warning to all those business minds who wanted to enter politics but slicing all its power through ridiculous amendments to the existing will only make things worse. Article ends with a satirical note on the citizens of this country that this small issue can be ignored if we ready to leave our democracy, free speech and fair elections in grave danger.

Hindu : 17 Apr - Editorial : Not for Sale

This article is about the positive outcomes of Tamil Nadu's deceased organ retrieval program. Since the initiative all its records had been made transparent which is the first reason why common public started believing it. And the result is that within a short span the organ donation percentage has cross National percentage. Those who die from brain stem death become eligible for organ donation, especially the key organs like kidneys and liver. So Doctor's in Tamil Nadu had taken an initiative with this program in convincing the relatives of the deceased to help them with organ donation from the dead which could give a long life for the living who are suffering from severe ailments and who would need organ transplantation. surprisingly many families have come forward for such donation as they knew what they had lost. This increase in organ donation had actually reduced the transplantation cost as many of the patients who needed transplantation were poor and hence this kind of donation was a great relief for them.

Though it is understood that such initiative has come from a state which was previously struggling from highest illegal organ trade where a person especially from poor background was forced to donate his organ for dying need of money, one must also consider how the donation campaign was spread all over the state especially to those hospitals which had the facilities to preserve organs of the dead and also conduct transplantation which made winning the trust of a common man in this type of transparent system possible. Number of deaths due to road accidents are shocking which is giving an adequate supply for this program to run without deficit, at the same time increase in number of ailments and depleting health conditions due to pollution and other reasons, though meeting the supply, is a serious concern. Article ends with a note that curbing illegal organ trade should be considered as a national initiative with which at least the living will have a  healthy life without getting tempted to sell their organs to a middle man.

Hindu : 17 Apr - Editorial : Homeland Security Breached

Whats happened in Boston the other day was truly unfortunate. A twin blasts killing  3 and injuring nearly 176 was something least expected for america on behalf of its Oldest Marathon in Boston. USA had announced this was a major attack after September 11, 2001 attacks on World trade center and Pentagon. Though no terrorist group came forward claiming responsibility, America didn't even have prior intelligence that such an attack was in plan. How ever Federal Bureau of Investigation has now entered into picture and is adamant in finding out the source which had carefully planned and executed an attack which immediately created a panic in Boston and all other states. Blasts in a peace Marathon was least expected and as per the reports from the hospital treating the injured, it was found that the explosion was lethal targeting innocents with ball bearing and shrapnel with which the bombs were made. And these bombs were placed closed to finish line giving a clear picture that killing the public was the top most priority of the ones who planted the bomb

Also the Author now feels that for the past decade after the Sep'11 attacks, many of the minority ethnic groups were under constant threat in the name of American Patriot act especially Muslims and Sikhs. It was after a lot of protest and concerns that such humiliation were brought to peaceful terms and a blasts like these will once again ignite anti social hatred towards the same ethnic groups. Even though President Obama had announced that USA is still not clear whether this was an attack from internal or external terrorist groups, questioning had happened to the injured Saudi who was being treated at the hospital and this is not a good sign and thus America is yet to see racial hatred in the name of Homeland security. Hoping that the responsible are identified soon, Article ends with a note that America needs to wake and find the main culprit instead of going with a prejudiced approach.

Hindu : 16 Apr - Editorial : Namo and Nithish's Dharma

So not everyone is in total support for Gujarat's Chieft minister, Mr.Modi to be the next prime ministerial candidate from NDA. And criticize has been hugely seen from outside NDA especially its main ally , Janatha Dal United headed by Chief Minister of Nihar Mr.Nitish Kumar. It is becoming more obvious as days go by that Nitish Kumar is not happy with NDA's portrayal of Mr. Modi as the savior of our country. It was evidently seen in the public criticism made by Mr.Kumar in his recent puclib meeting on how Mr.Modi had failed to control anti-Muslim communal riots in 2002 and also that his development methods are skewed and localised. The issue had to gone to the extent of JD(U) demanding NDA to declare a secular leader as a Prime Ministerial candidate although NDA has thrashed the demand asking it to stop defaming Mr.Modi. But looking at the political history in India, anything could happen in a duration of 8 months, the deadline which Janatha Dal united had given to BJP to announce its candidate.

Janatha Dal United had come a long way under the leadership of Nitish Kumar inspite of giving support to NDA through 2002 anti muslim riots and even when other ally's were leaving NDA in an impression that NDA was moving ahead with hindutva or a communal agenda. Whats surprising is that in spite of being a noble ally, JD(U) had won strong support of Muslims and other backwards with a deep trust in Nitish Kumar's government in Bihar. Nitish Kumar's claims clearly suggest that Bihar would not support Gujarat's leader in becoming the national leader. In simple words JD(U) will do in all its might to keep Modi out of the competition where as NDA will try to keep him as a sole competitor. What ever decision NDA would take in the end it would surely be a risk if NDA wants to keep the wave of Mr.Modi to sail on a high tide as supporting him would automatically ensure losing a strong ally with secular beliefs.

Hindu : 16 Apr - Editorial : Continuing Chavismo

Elections in Venezuela and successor of previous president Hugo Chavez, Nicolus Maduro who is the interim president after the death of late president seems to have lot of challenges in fulfilling his predessors shoes. And even the percentage don't seem to encourage him in winning the elections although he had won the immediate elections after the demise of Hugo, winning over Henrique Capriles with 51% votes. although voting percentage had been slightly lower than what it had in 2012 October election where Hugo had been elected as a president consequently for the fourth term. Capriles had asked for a recount and Maduro had agreed for that and a recount is soon to happen which can turn the cards to anyone's favour.

The reason why Capriles is confident that he might win in the recount is that he is confident that Maduro will not be able to achieve what Hugo has achieved in his presidential rule and more over the people in venezuela are looking for a change in the form of Caprile, in the absence of their favorite president Hugo, In spite of Hugo'd Racism, he was liked by many for the way he had developed his country in a short span. Poverty rate had gone down from 40% to 7%. oil companies had been nationalized with which companies were paying 16% in place of 1%  and the money paid were being used for rehabilitation, hospital and education. Almost 2/3rds of population had provisions for free education upto undergraduate level. So who ever would come into power will have to continue the legacy. Though with declining vote percentage towards Hugo's party, it is clear that People indeed are expecting a change and it is very difficult for Maduro if he wins and is expected to rule.

Hindu : 15 Apr - Editorial : Staring down the barrel

Though America is trying hard to stop Fire Arms use in all continents so that America is safer from the world, the irony is She has failed to take basic preventive steps to protect her own people from the threat of psychopaths present in her own land. This article is a straight arrow into the heart of the super nation which is still struggling  to bring in stringent laws keep itself safer from random shootouts that had been happening in recent times for USA. Connecticut, 2004 Adam was on a killing spree with count of 20 at school one at home, his mother and finally himself only because he had a gun in his hand and it was easily accessible. Though Connecticut from there on tightened rules for anyone in its state to get a licenses weapon, may states in U.S especially the ones ruled by republicans for instance Arkansas still lack such discipline. Article started off with a vote count of 63 to 31 over the usage of armed weapons by civilians and a rare possibility of a debate if in case there were any votes for it. The only amendments even if the senate approves but will be possibly rejected by house of representatives are the thorough back ground check of a person before issuing a gun and check for his mental illness from his past records. The reason why republicans would not be happy to include one more point that the issuing of magazine clips should be reduced is the fact that such an amendment would directly effect the revenue for National Rifle Association.

There was on amendment passed in 1791 stating that since the military has weapon and at any point of time are threat to common public, one can have a licensed weapon and that wouldn't be considered as law infringement. Though many representative argued that such an amendment was passed keeping in mind the then political situation and should be conveniently ignore based on current scenarios, the majority who wouldn't like to participate in the debate were giving a deaf ear to their reasons. article thus ends mocking America on how it sill needs to tighten her own freedom rules in order to keep her people safe from devils at home

Hindu : 15 Apr - Editorial : Common Sense on capital leads

An article on Economics is what one would feel boring to read if he has no knowledge of finance and commerce and yet this one turns out to be pretty informative on how the International Monitory Fund has come out of the cocoon and has relaxed its default goal of a common Capital account Liberation across the whole world. And this step is being considered a breather for India which is undergoing uncontrollable capital flows in the current market. Though Tarapore committee has first suggested that Capital flows under constant monitoring can improve GDP of countries in the third world by macro economical adjustments and market develops which would then result in capital flow controls, IMF was not ready to buy that. However it has now amended that capital flows from a country can be regulated under certain conditions. It is now the choice of an individual country to negotiate for their own interest rates with the IMF.

Article takes on example of how Malaysia had come out of its financial crisis by restricted foreign exchange by any means during the economic meltdown, contrary to what IMF had suggested all the south east asian countries to increase its cash flows and regulate the economy but reducing expenses on public. this explains and suggests that IMF should come out of the belief the ultimate goal of One size to fit all since its not practically possible having seen the economic scenario since the inception of Capital account liberalization. Author thus concludes of all countries, India should make the best use of this change amde by IMF and regulate its capital flows based on the current economic scenario She is facing.

Hindu : 12 Apr - Editorial : No more clean chits

Yes Indira Gandhi was assassinated in 1984 and followed her death was a massacre similar to Jewish Holocaust which was organised by then politicians from Congress and the one which happened in Delhi was more severe and Mr.Jagdish Tytler  had been held responsible for the riot although it never proved as there was no circumstantial evidence of his presence during the massacre. There was an investigation which opened nearly three decades ago but of no results and what's worst was CBI plea to close the investigation on Mr.Jagdish giving him a clean chit. It was until a report from Nanavati's Commission in 2004, that Mr.Jagdish had involved in the massacre of Sikhs in Delhi, Court agreed to reopen the case but there was no progress from then. Again after eight years of no action, Delhi's sessions judge had issued a notice to bring evidence against Mr.Jagdish is someone is ready to come forward and prove. As CBI had already tried before with a report that he was not present  at the riot scene, some evidence did suggest which never came into light or recorded of his direct involvement.

Hopefully, if the evidence is gathered correctly this time, may be the corrupt politician will be convicted. Whats painful to accept is the diminishing image of Central Bureau of Investigation for trying to save a politician who had been responsible for a communal riot which on a larger scale had encouraged many other politicians from congress to organize such crimes in other parts of North India in 1984. Author ends with a note that these riots were the roots for a modern crime organized for politicians which had continued further whenever there was a communal tension and a political motive behind. Only if the roots are plucked with true justice, we will have the hope that our judicial system is strong enough to prevent such massacres in future.

Hindu : 12 Apr - Editorial : Save that Accord

Most of the times steps taken or treaty's signed  by a government to bring peace with the protesters end up with turning the issue into a major turmoil as government realizes later on how a hasty decision had cost them unavoidable circumstances. Similar is the case with the attitude of West Bengal Governement's peace treaty with Ghorkha Movement where it had signed that a separate state would be given under one upmanship. Now the internal parties who had been demanding for a separate state in Darjeeling now seem to fight for that ownership of the movement so that government would support them when they win the majority. The Ghorkha Janmukhthi Morcha and The Ghorka National Liberation Front are now fighting among themselves to get their right for Ghorka Territorial Agreement signed in 2011.

Mamatha Benerjee's attitude towards a movement which had run for decade with rare violent incidents here or there were seen as public repelling as her decision not only made it difficult for her own government but also for other governments which were facing the demand for a separate state internally. Now that the government had come to a practical conclusion that its not easy to take quick decisions which could have deeper effect on people's sentiments towards a region, author suggests that Mamatha's cabinet should call in all party meeting and then decide the future of Ghorka Separatism as regional influence and necessity has priority  over political necessity.

Hindu : 11 Apr - Editorial : Upholding the right to life

This article is regarding the insurgency and its after affects being seen in Manipur which still is highly unstable in terms of peace among civilians. Though it is accepted that rebellious behavior was seen in most of the citizens this article specifies on the atrocities which were being committed by Army personnel in the name of suppressing the rebellion. Sandip Hegde' committee which was formed because of the public petition on the authenticity of encounters happening in Assam region clearly revealed in their report that seven out of six were direct consequences of fake encounters and activists believed that there were 1500 deaths. At this juncture one would really doubt whether army or any military personnel were being honest in their job or were silencing the rebels in the name of encounters. Though Supreme court made an understatement that the case in Manipur is 'mere carelessness' of the judicial system in not drawing the lines for the Protectors to safeguard peace. In the name of peace keeping the author feels that Right to life which is the atmost right for any one alive was being ignored.

Though Supreme court has told that they would consider Hegde's report with highest priority , it is evident from the incidents of the past that no action could be taken against these fake encounters one which had the death of Manorama Devi in 2004. Reasons being the army being held safe under the rule that no one from army is liable to trial for a civilian crime. In our country Army is considered above the law because what ever they commit is pardoned since they are doing it in the line of duty. for the past one decade there have been new laws on paper for Do's and Don'ts of the army but as said no serious implications were driven from such laws. Even though it is difficult for supreme court to order an investigation for all encounters, a demand done by Universal Human Rights Commission, it would at least keep in mind Right to life is something which comes by birth and no person can be above law under this Right.

Hindu : 11 Apr - Editorial : Descent that never ends

Article is a portray on things will never get settled if one chooses the path of violence. Best explained are the chain of events happening in west Bengal after the death of the student Leader Sudip Gupta in Police Custody. The two rival parties, Trinamol Congress, the ruling government and CPI the opposition are now head on with violent responses after his death was showcased as government's intentional plot to suppress the protests. The public attack of deputy chief minister in Delhi was evident that CPI had responded in a violent fashion and the author believes that such violent measures will only cause more pain to the common man and should be brought to halt either by the government or by the sheer understanding of the opposition party that this is not the way to show our anger.

Authors put in the logic that the only reason why one should bend towards violence is only if its a matter of survival or self defense but definitely not to protest the anger of injustice. Author points out that ground situation might tempt the protesters to choose a violent path but one should not take that path when its not he last option. They can still protest by taking all measures to bring the majority to lose confidence with the present government both at public level as well as in their assembly. It would only be a matter of time that issues like this can be resolved through democracy instead of playing the blame game of who resided to violence first. Author ends with a hope that Ms.Benerjee's hatred by the public should be used as a gamble by the opposition to resolve such grave issue through non-violence before the people of west bengal fall prey to violence acts from both ends.

Hindu : 10 Apr - Editorial : Fencing in the RBI

The new legislative which has formed to control the financial sector of India seems to have received serious criticism and concern based on the the present situation India is under going. Financial Sector Legislative Reforms Commission's (FSLRC) final report suggested some points which had mixed reviews from the inside member itself. One of the main reform was to dissolve Securities and Exchange board of India,  Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority and Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority to form a single entity which would be named as United Financial Regulatory Authority (UFRA). It means that if this reform is implemented then there would be only two governing bodies monitoring financial sector in India, RBI and UFRI. Economists believe that this would not only increase the burden on single entity UFRA but also would not be feasible on the present financial infrastructure of India. What concerns them most is the suggestion that UFRI would be headed by a board but not the regular top to down approach. Making it worse is shift of controlling interest rates from RBI to UFRI. This would not only take off most important powers of RBI which has been running as purely on power of its own, under no influence of ruling government, but also puts such a power to a body which would obviously be ruled by the board selected by ruling government. Such claims are reasonable since it was clearly mentioned that Financial Minister of the government would be heading UFRI if its formed. Though the report says that RBI would have Veto powers to pass any resolution passed by UFRI. Economists believe it would restrict such powers only on paper

Article thus believes that such reforms would take some time to be implement considering the current economics of India and also that the report needs strong revisions and amendments if the commission wants people to trust them that such a report has been produce to improve financial situation of India but not act as a magic trick to present such vital powers to the leaders running the government. Article ends with a sarcastic comment that the downfall of our financial situation is because of over financialisation of markets but not with the failure of regulations.

Hindu : 10 Apr - Editorial : Green Tax

Its understood that our country is heavily crowded. Also understood that its not justifiable to make socialistic opinion that since we are hugely populated, we should not encourage rich lads buying SUV's to make a style statement that big is better. At the end of the day its their choice on what they want to buy. For the very same reason there was 3% excise tax imposed on all SUV's but late there was a petition from the big automobile companies to remove that tax in the name of low sales and reducing that extra burden on the buyers. At this juncture, article makes a valid point that the Indian automobile market has been doing well as long as there are commuters who would like to own their own means of transportation and the government instead of thinking on the owners or the companies's point of view, should actually concentrate on increasing public means of transportation effectively. taking an example of RTC buses and recent Metro, article suggests that even today, the public transportation is still underdeveloped and there are much to be done by the government to make them function with efficiency and assured profits instead of showing pity to private companies who believe that this additional tax would not make much difference and more over this tax is being collected on SUV's for the amount of pollution they cause by increase carbon content in the environment.

Also, the article points out SUV owners if possible should consider buying them only if its necessary, how ever leaving the choice to the owners who would like to make a style statement with a huge vehicle under their roof. Thus this article pleads to continue levying green tax for SUV purchases and reminds the big companies that they should be happy that our government is not putting a limit to the number of vehicles sold with the increasing traffic day by day.

Hindu : 9 Apr - Editorial : Water on his Mind

Ajit Pawar, the man who never had empathy for a common man, who never behaved as a  responsible politician seems to have lost his mind thus attaining the next of indecency through his callous remarks recently. In one of the press meets, he had mentioned that those who are demanding for water in their fields could use his urine to cover up the shortage. Such gruesome remarks were immediately condemned but the remarks made were so intense that no apology would suffice it. This was not the first time when Ajit pawar had made such ridiculous statements and his uncle, senior uncle had to step out many times to cover him up. Unfortunately this time, his cover wont be sufficient to show the stupidity of his nephew.

Article then gives us all details of how Ajit pawar had been a corrupt politician as a irrigation minister for almost decade and that he was forcefully made to quit the position before the white paper on irrigation in Maharashtra was introduced. Many dams were built and irrigation project were at unimaginable pace under this white paper but it soon came to an end as pawar again took the post in December 2012. Within no time, corruption was back to its own shape in irrigation three of the projects are already under scrutiny. Article also reminds us how he had neglected power in Maharashtra. Author directly uses similar words to defame Pawar since he did not deserve respect for not understanding the pain of farmers whom had asked for water for fields and power which would help them have a better crop period. He ridicules the way Congress and its allies are trying to dilute this issue as a common joke made by Pawar but author wants to remind all these parties that India is watching and pleading these parties not to take its citizens for granted.

Hindu : 9 Apr - Editorial : Mamata's two selves

So once again logically proven that politicians change their stance and colors based on situations and roles they come across. This articles speaks about how Mamatha Benerjee, the current chief minister of West Bengal is treating her people. Issue being the death of a student leader in police custody who was captured in the recent protests done by SFI. Articles says how Mamatha had been so cold to the situation and denied any responsibility for such an atrocity. She did not seem to consider this issue as a grave one and the author points out that such a nonchalant behavior will only make things worse for her.

The reason why this article used  such a title is t show case the dual mentality which Mamatha Didi had shown when in opposition and now in Ruling. in the past, she was there for every protest supporting the cause when it was genuine. She raised her voice from time to time and was one of the strong reason for her to be so good in questioning the then ruling party. But now she seems to have taken a back step in being so close to people's opinions. Such a mind set is directly or indirectly alienating her major sections of the society and this in turn is going to cause her strong repulsion from public over her party. Though she denies such allegations with beliefs that all these current protest are intentional and meaningless being funded and conducted to show case her and the government of her's in a bad shape, Author says that this opinion of hers need not be true always. Author ends the note with a sensible warning to the West Bengal's Chief minister that if she wants to rule her state in peace, she should come out of this Duality and be what she was which won many Bengali Heearts once.

Hindu : 8 Apr - Editorial : A Federal Foreign Policy to save India

How good is a coalition government to rule over a massive country like India divided under region, religion and caste yet pretentious over unity in diversity ? This article is a point to point explanation of the question raised whether India can handle political blackmails from different sections who fight in the name of their own regional sentiments. Examples taken are the issues of Tamil Nadu highly agitated over disastrous treatment of native Tamilians in Sri Lanka, Gujarat's oppose over the border sharing with Pakistan for which Sir Creek was to be blamed, West Bengal's denial over signing a treaty with Bangladesh for sharing water of Teestha and left's Major back out to sign out a nuclear deal with America.

Using all the above examples article explains how individual states have out India into an indirect pressure to call off valuable deals which would have ended up in a positive and fruitful outcome. At one point fighting against Sri Lanka would have put India into a collateral threat if Sri Lanka approached China or Bangladesh for support which is no way a good news for a country like ours who had been poor in maintaining peace with regions of conflict like Kashmir and internal Insurgency. Also signing a deal with America could have brought India more security over nuclear trade. Treaty for water with Bangladesh could have opened trade and commerce with neighboring country, which obviously would place north eastern states in a better position and resolving border issues with Pakistan with Gujarat could have given India better opportunity to explore unidentified resources.

Article derives to a logical  conclusion that India should develop a federal foreign which would be similar to the one American has thus makings Her reforms independent of a state or a community. Keeping in mind that American senate systems is apt for USA but will be difficult to implement the same in India since ours is a country which is so reluctant for change and something like a senate system which is a centralized body is likely to happen. More than a mere immediate results, India and Her states should be matured enough to calculate the future relations with its enemies and allies. It was a suggestion that America's foreign policy could b taken as a basic model but of course India needs to develop Her own thus not hurting any regional or religious sentiments.

Hindu : 8 Apr - Editorial : A treaty with Gaping Holes

Arms trade treaty, something which very few of us are aware and especially least interesting topic to understand. This article talks on how the present treaty has been amended to favor the western arm suppliers. It starts off with how a treaty most important as this which can control terrorism is being misused by top players to make sure that their business is unaffected with such amendments. the new article in it says that weapons cannot be exported or imported if it is know that those weapons shall be used for terrorist activities but that do not clarify on who should judge whether its a terrorist activity or not so that leave an open question and an exception that weapons can be traded as a gift between countries. Also it had also been observed that it wouldn't be against the treaty if the trade is between a country to a militia of another country as the treat hold only good if the deal id between two recognized countries.

Though India did not put it's vote to the latest article added or modified in the treaty along with china and brazil, its the big suppliers from the west who had this treaty go in their way and now it seems impossible for stopping arms trade that can root deep into terrorism. however the article suggests that now that India knows the secret behind creating such intentional loop holes in the treaty, She should be careful in doing arm deal for the defenses and specially should not continue or even think of having deals with those countries who were to readily benefit from these loop holes.

Hindu : 8 Apr - Editorial : Lokayukhtha Modi-fication

Though on surface it looks strong to have a multi member body for the recently formed Lokayuktha committee in Gujarat, this article throws insight on the real intentions of Gujarat's Chief Minister, Mr.Modi if dug deep. Firstly, Modi was never happy with a single headed Lokayuktha who would be appointed by Chief Justice of High court. In a report sent to Governor, he questioned the credibility of such appointment and also implementing the duties of Lokayuktha under a single hand. This reasoning won him the confidence to form a committee, but not one, who would now be heading Lokayuktha in curbing corruption from Gujarat.Article says that in a way Modi has won by making such a dilution of minds and the members who were chosen for the committee strengthens his influence of the decisions that shall be taken by this body. Committee which comprised of Chief Minister, One Minister, Assembly Speaker, One from the opposition party and one appointed by Chief Justice makes it even more difficult for the opposition parties to believe their expediency.

Though Modi argues that this was the same proposal proposed by the central government while passing the National Lokpal Bill, it is undoubtedly understood that an opposition leader and an appointed member by chief justice are minority in the group and the decision of the committee will be highly influence by the ruling party. Also Author feels its a disgrace for the state government to put in ridiculous rules by the committee that the evidence will not be put in public and the corrupt ministers info will not be declared openly and such a offence is punishable by imprisonment. Author ends the topic which a remark that Modi have won the first step in modifying the cause to uproot corruption but will have to play his next step cautiously as the opposition parties prepare to question him for every decision he take in the name of State patriotism and development.

Hindu : 5 Apr - Editorial : Never ending Commercial breaks

Ok so advertisements are not for viewers but for the channels to mint money. Is this how a channel works to generate revenue ? where were the days when content was more important than mere advertisements when the viewers used to wait till the ads are done so that they don't miss the content? Those days are long gone as the viewers these days are really fed up with unending and frequent interruptions of advertisements in TV. Although many complaints were made in the past, no action was taken. But now the recent regulation from TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority  of India) has come as a big relief to the common man, however Channels have immediately protested the new regulation and accused that its a big jolt to the operation of channels and many news channels would shut down if that regulation is implemented. In one clock hour, 12 minutes is the maximum time a channel can use for advertisements. Article gives detail reasoning on why the protest from new channels is baseless that such actions is against freedom of speech and also a trick to stop them from making the best use of upcoming elections.

Firstly, this regulation is not new, it existed for the past 25 years that a channel cannot exceed 12 mins in an hour for advertisement, 10 mins being normal ads and 2 mins, being thier own ads for channel promotion. Article infers that the reason why channel never raised this point in the past but have a problem immediately the moment this regulatory was passed is due to the strict decision to implement the regulation this time as in the time this rule was not taken seriously. In a genuine survey on the extent of advertisements coverage for 6 news channels , a shocking revelation came out that 35% of the time in an hour is spent on advertisements instead of 20% per day and there were time when this percentage went up to 40%  annually. Article suggests that now that regulation has passed there is no turning back and that TRAI will make no mistakes this time in implementing this rule. Article also points out that some of the elements such broadcasting an ad by split screen or a quarter screen and increasing the volume of the ad when compared to the actual program were dropped out from the regulation which should be taken as consolation by the channels.

Author ends on a happy note that TRAI has seriously considered the pain of common viewers who will now be able to enjoy their programs and its high time the channels concentrate on pleasing the viewers instead of fooling them will advertisements.

Hindu : 5 Apr - Editorial : The next contagion

A strange lethal virus H7N9 which scientists have named The influenza A is causing serious concerns all over the world as this type of bird flu which doesn't physically cause suffering to a bird, already took 3 of the nine infected people in China. It is very difficult to detect this virus in birds as there are no signs of infection in birds which is making it very difficult for the poultry farms to implement their conventional method of quarantining infected birds. Article then explains how this virus would spread very soon if an effective method of detecting this virus is not found out.

Article then speaks on how a research on the previous bird flu H5N1  was stopped in the initial stages itself as the governments felt that publishing such article in journal would educate the wrong and in a way encourage global terrorism. Author sighs on how this fear has wasted so much of time by not letting the scientists do further research in finding a more prolonged lethal virus through genetics and eventually a cure.Author feels that it is still not too late and that a proper research should be conducted on this virus before it has a serious spread through poultry industry. It is still in China initially but if controlled measures are not taken , we will have to face serious consequences.

Hindu : 5 Apr - Editorial : Not this Road, Burma

Why is it difficult for different communities to live peacefully in one region. How does a religion divide people who are born on the same land. Why is everyone so interested in finding the origins of a region and why does everyone want to decide that a region should be biased over a majority. This article may not answer all these question but clearly feels sorry for the kind of transition Burma is going through in the name of Democracy. When first Burma declared that it would ends its military rule and switch to democracy, little did anyone ever imagined that such democracy is visioned at a costly price. Its true that Burma is going through many political and cultural changes but that doesn't mean that Burma should have a national identity based on a major community since that was what it had been during military rule. Article vents out its frustration that Politicians are using community as a loop hole in disrupting law and order and that could be clearly seen in the recent attacks on  Muslims in Burma who are considered a minor community.

Buddhist are supposed to be peace loving people and its very unfortunate that even Buddhists have participated in a cultural riots over a section of muslims and complained that they are don't belong to the so called Budhist nation. They sent out a clear message that such an attack is bound to happen even in future over the original Muslims who were born and brought up in Burma. Article also shows how helpless are the leaders of Burma both in opposition and ruling who did not have minimum courtesy to condemn the attacks. In a way, this article silently pleads Burma, not to take this road which eventually lead to total anarchy and loss of innocent lives in the name of one nation, the road which led to a disastrous future to many countries in south east.

Hindu : 4 Apr - Editorial : Modi - The man and his message.

Mr.Narendra Modi, THE Name which a whole nation is believed to chant in a hope that he will be the change Indian had been waiting for so long. This article is a satirical counter on all those beliefs from an author who was being constantly being asked in the states on why is Mr.Modi's name so frequent in the news. It's quite obvious that with the results which Modi has obtained in his state Gujarat, BJP is showing him as a future leader and his marketing partners making no mistakes in publicizing him with a grandeur campaign. Quickly , the article gives us two reasons why Mr.Modi had become so successful as a leader in recent times. First reason being the parochialism which he immensely used to bring oneness in the state. Thus the local self respect played a major role in Unifying Gujarat and thus path was set on over all development. Second reason being his authoritative leadership in not bending to any allegations from communists, environmentalists and socialists especially with regard to heavy industrialisation. However author feels that these two reasons will not hold strong when India as a whole is considered since our country is not running through an Identity or Patriotic crisis which would need a leader like Modi to inspire its citizens. Also India is surely not looking for a dictator.

Author then also points out a valid theory that every state have their own special Chief Minister like Jayalalitha for Tamil Nadu, Mamatha Benerjee for West Bengal and Naveen Patnaik for Orissa and that every CM take very good care of their respective states. It' only because of few cheer leaders , it seems why Mr.Modi is stealing the lime light. Author then reasons few practical difficulties which Mr.Modi has to face if the central power will be given if NDA wins the next general elections. Though at some point we feel that Author is being too negative in doubting the capabilities of Mr.Modi, his reasons are valid and need to be considered if Modi  goes for the Big Fish. Author clearly specifies that Mr.Modi has to first prove himself in the next 12 months that he can actually implement what he has committed for his state and his country and only then will he be able to win the hears of middle class and upper middle class families who are under sheer  pressure to survive under so many governments for so long. Author ends with a sarcastic note that India may need a leader but doesn't need a blind hope to cling on.

Hindu : 4 Apr - Editorial : Never Changing Animal Behaviour

This article is a serious venting of frustration on the way police personnel treat common public especially in the events of a silent protest for some injustice. First and foremost example being the recent lathi charge on a protest from teachers in which even the women were beaten brutally. And 'Animal behavior' was the right term used by court to quote such an inhuman act by the police who tried to reason that they were on duty and were just executing their orders. Article tries to reason with a similar logic that when police could listen so willfully to their orders why would they not listen to their own conscience to use physical assault on those protesters whom they think are causing public nuisance through silence. while executing their superiors orders how can they forget that its ok to conduct lathi charge on women under the name of law.

Article then gives us all the happening which were tried by many organisation in the past 7 decades to implement and bring reform into such ruthless hearts of policemen but in vain. it suggests that though many reforms have been put forward and were assured by the respective state government that they will be implemented never came true and all these reforms remained in papers.

Article ends with a impatient note that such attitude in the Police will not only degrade their value in a common man's mind but will also eventually loss of trust in the society where public are the easy targets for terrorists, politicians and not to mention heartless police who would not back out to charge any person irrespective of age, gender and cause.

Hindu : 4 Apr - Editorial : Major threat from Micro Debris from Space.

Dying satellites in space when subjected to controlled blasts or collision explode forming many tine fragments as low as 1 millimeter. This article is about the dangerous outcome which is about to happen in space with such fragments which are more than 10 cm in size. It starts with a controlled demolition of a Chinese satellite BLITS in 2009, which according to article, an irresponsible act by the host country as the tiny pieces from such demolition are posing a great threat to other satellites in the orbit and also space shuttles.Article also talks on how these pieces though small in size can cause serious damage for an incoming shuttle or a satellite. One more example of such controlled demolition is also sighted in this article. but that demolition did not create havoc as it was made to explode at a lower altitude so the debris which tried entering into earth burnt into ash.

Article then mentions about the increasing number of such tiny pieces and how this number would increase considerably in near future as many country are planning to launch many satellites to monitor for their own necessities. Article is try to raise a serious to all the individual space organisations to look into this before we run out of options and would rely on luck hoping that a launched satellite will not come across such debris. However some solutions were also briefed which can prevent any catastrophic consequences one being an expensive method where an unmanned satellite will have an additional feature where it can navigate itself in case it comes across the path of debris which can damage it. Article ends with a cheaper and more safer method which can prevent debris to even form in space which is destroying a dying satellite at a lower orbit so that after explosion most of the pieces would come under the influence of gravity and hence burn to ashes in an attempt to come down to earth.

Hindu : 3 Apr - Editorial : How original is an invention to deserve a patent ?

This article is an extensive summary of what all went in mind of those sitting in supreme court in giving a stubbon judgement that Novartis's drug doesn't deserve a patent. Article starts with a wonderful statement that Pharma companies should concentrate more on making incurable diseases curable with at a substantial cost instead of trying to make thier so called 'inventions' evergreen by patenting.

Article then takes us through a rigorous chronological journey to give us an insight on how this patent battle started with a cancer drug which was invented by Zimmerman. It was already patented in 1996 first in U.S and then in U.K which was later known as Zimmerman Patent. Article then explains how a re modified drug was invented by Novartis and how since then the Pharma company had been trying to patent it so that the new formula doesn't become generic. At this genric article brings out the famous point in Patent Rule which is article 3d which states that any drug which does not have any considerable efficacy on its predecessor cannot be considered as a new invention and under this rule cannot be given a patent.

Article thus by all means show how a big pharma had been insisting to prove that their modified drug had an improved result in curing the illness but that was a sensibly rejected by Supreme court that this drug cannot be considered as a new invention but ofcourse a better drug over the original one and that it uviolates article 3d. Moreover Supreme court also adivces the pharma companies to invest more time and money in coming up with new inventions which can cure chronic diseases instead of on costly lawyers who try to argue that modified drugs should be considered as new inventions. Though this verdict could make big pharma companies to cease their investment for R&D in India and migrate to China, Supreme courts supports its judgement with a ligical point that drugs which can cure diseases as chronic as cancer should be reachable to a common man even if it means to go against giant like Novartis who plan to stop that in the name of evergreen Patent.

Hindu : 3 Apr - Editorial : Right to Food.

It is a satirical article on how a food security Bill was passed on 2013 claiming that India is a vast land of abundant though the irony being that a large population die every day due to malnutrition and hunger. It is very seen that soon Right to Food will be formed as a legislature and the recent food bill supports that claim.

Article then give details of key points of the bill. Firstly that food shall be distributed to all families who have women bearing a child or women with an ailment. Though there was a proposal that an exception be made to those families which have women with more than two children, it was a sensible dropped for obvious reasons. then there was a suggestion  that Food distribution could be done as per Universal Public Distribution Scheme where all familes will be given food through ration which fall below poverty line.i Article also talks on this scheme was successfully implemented in Chandigarh and hopes that central government takes this point seriously even though Tamil Nadu doesn't want to fall into the category of Universal PDS.

Author finally ends the article saying that instead of distributing food to the selective few, government should strictly follow distributing to those who are need irrespective of gender which incluces destitutes, old and homeless people. As that would actually solve the problem of deatha due to hunger.

Hindu : 3 Apr - Editorial : Saudi Arabia's Shocker

Expatriate is a person who has recided in a foreign land for a living or for any other reason. Saudi Arabia was always a land of opportunities for unskilled or semi skilled immigrants from India who wanted to earn enough money for a while so as to give a decent life style to their families back home.Saudi Arabis's new bill which insists that 1 out 10 employees should be a saudi Nationalite is a shocker to the whole SouthEast Asia and they have a very good reason to worry. Article is a clear explanation on the actual reason for the Gulf country to pass such a bill. It is not to restrict those whoare working in that country legally but a stern check on those illegal immigrants who have come leaving their home lands for search of money and most of them are prey for those greedy agents who make money by such trade. Apart from India especially Kerala, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Srilanka also are from those countries which produce high immigrants to Gulf every year.

Article also reassures that India is taking this bill seriously and is calling out all such illegal immigrants back without any delay. India has asked the Saudi Government not to send these people on deported status as tat would restrict their access to any other gulf country in future. Infact the central Government haso agreed to get them back on its own expenses. Article also confirms this is in no way a step taken by Saudi Arabia to stop Indians to work in their country or a target specifically put on India but thier own reform to make their country more Saudi conscious. Article ends with a note that Saudi's Bill should be an eye opener to all those petty employees to be careful with the agents who lure them for high money employability in gulf countries.

Hindu : 2 Apr - Editorial : Higher Education Reforms

This article is detailed explanation of two probable reforms that might happen over higher education in India. Article starts with noting two committees formed by the government to come up with suitable solutions to make higher education possible to all sections of society and how this solution will benefit the youth of our country. The first comittee was headed by Yash Pal and the other by Sam Pitroda. Yash Pal's committees intention was to find out ways for 'rejuvenation and reformation for higher education in India' why Sam pitroda's purpose was to form and define 'National Knowledge Commission' Though both committees had a similar journey in the quest the outcomes were quite contrasting.

Yash pal's committee suggested that the reason why higher education should be formed is that its not helping the youth to improve their and make them employable. Where as Sam's board concluded that higher education should be accessible to everyone so we need to find out a way  in encouraging the poor to take up higher studies. Both conclusion over lap at some juncture but are giving any convincing solution. Author then give us a rigorous explanation on how these two solutions if implemented would result in shaping the youth. Author some how feels that the silent war which has happened between these two committees would eventually effect the youth as the government is keen to come up with a practical reform which can improve the life of common youth but not to know which board gives a better solution in idea situations. Article then talks on how these two committees results will have a negative impact on under graduate education if implement.

All in all its fair to say that though government is doing a right thing in forming a board to improve the standards of higher education in India, forming more than one board will not make things easier. It is better to concentrate on one final goal instead of looking at more than one option.

Hindu : 2 Apr - Editorial : Message with mixed feelings

This is an interesting article on behalf of BJP's and its proabable journey ahead towards general elections 2014.it starts off with an incident in the past as well as in recent times. both related to Mr.Narender Modi. One incident where he was accused of all the suffering of gujarat during Riots, abd another incident where he was warmly welcomed into BJP's event by all the big shots of the party and the way Ramnath Singh praised Narendra Modi for his visionary over Gujarat is worth noting.Authoer takes these two incidents and tries to dedcue on how BJP could now rely on Mr.Modi to win a major election in 2014. At this juncture Authoer also points out other major player who are in BJP as well as in NDA who are planning to run for Prime Minisiter if their party wins. Modi being considered as a Prime Ministeral candidate by default, according to the Author, doesnt look like a good news to many who have been loyally a part of NDA and BJP and that they wil not be happy if Modi is given the Chance.

Article then mentions all those candidates who wish to try their luck at the prime post of Indian cabinet. However it should not be forgotten that the time India gets its next prime inister, the way it shall be ruled will be crucial and only a rightful candidate deserve to sit in that chair. Author then talks about the propable after effects from al those candidates including Narendra Modi if they are not given the opportunity to rule this Country under the name of People's leader and the results do not look god. Hence the author ends the article hoping that BJP know what its doingand will choose the right candidate without impacting much on the party or the alliance in case they win.

Hindu : 2 Apr - Editorial : Verdict to the Rescue

The article talks about supreme court's verdict on Novartis's patent file for a cancer drug. Supporting the judgement which ruled out that patent is invalid since the new drug isn't a new invention but a modification of existing drug. This judgement was a big relief to cancer patients all over India as they can now access other generic drugs with the same formula at a lesser price. If Novartis had wont he case, the patented drug which costs around Rs.1,00,000 per month would have been inaccessable even for the upper middle class of our country. Article points out how these big companies try to file patentst to attain monopoly in the market while forgetting the purpose of creating the drug in the first place. Any organisation especially pharma should try to invent something which can be used by everyone. Author suggests that even if a Drug is patented, the company should make sure that it doesnt price it too high which makes it impossible for a common man to get treated. A key obseervation is made through this article that the amount of money and time spent on producing a new drug which goes through all stages is not exactly as its projected on paper and scientist says it way too less. some companies wantedly project those figures to justify the price and patent it in a conventional way. Its sad to know that treatment for chronic illness is being considered as a costly business instead of a everyone's cure. And author supports supreme court's verdict which took a brave step in an attempted monopoly.

Regulation must be made strict to avoid such claims in future. Article also gives an example of another big pharma company which was planning to file a patent and approach the supreme court if the verdict had favored Novartis.Article ends with a note that it should be understood that in developing countries like India generic drugs rule the market but not those 10% of costly drugs which are actually patented.Even if thebig players want to patent their drugs to avoid illegal market share then patent will be welcomed only if they are willing to sell their drug at a nominal price and authors feels that nominal price will not effect their business since they hold the patent so no other company would dare to replicate the drug. Hence a patented drug at a nominal price would be a possible solution for bigger companies if they want to attain monopoly at the same time run the business without overlooking common man

Hindu : 1 Apr - Editorial : Financial Crisis for Growth in India

This is a detailed article on the Financial crisis issues which India is currently going through. Article starts of Chidambaram's calculations on how his budget would help in India sustaining its growth rate and also explain how a whole country is dependent on one man's assumption. then the article takes us to through the assumption which our finance minister had taken while proposing the budget. It says the first assumption was to encourage investing heavily in Infrastructure. His assumption was that infrastructure development would eventually support producer there by increasing employability so the assumption was on the support of infrastructure to producers but not on direct financial growth. Article shows how such assumption had put our country's economy in a cycle of decline economic growth even if the GDP had recorded a growth but way below what was expected.

Other assumption was to increase foreign investments. Here the hope is that foreign countries will invest more and in return since the investment is done growth will be steady. But one should keep in mind that when  foreign investments can move a project to next level, they also get the power to reap the profits from such ventures. In others its like we work hard and they enjoy the profits. He article points out that its not the policy that need to be shaped correctly but the governance in implementing the policy. Many examples where then shown on how public sector suffers in investing even though a private firm comes forward to develop a region's infrastructure.

Author finally concludes that India needs to concentrate on handling financial crisis on ground level rather than hoping and assuming that a third party investment or a heavy investment on a particular sector would increase the pace of growth.
