How good is a coalition government to rule over a massive country like India divided under region, religion and caste yet pretentious over unity in diversity ? This article is a point to point explanation of the question raised whether India can handle political blackmails from different sections who fight in the name of their own regional sentiments. Examples taken are the issues of Tamil Nadu highly agitated over disastrous treatment of native Tamilians in Sri Lanka, Gujarat's oppose over the border sharing with Pakistan for which Sir Creek was to be blamed, West Bengal's denial over signing a treaty with Bangladesh for sharing water of Teestha and left's Major back out to sign out a nuclear deal with America.
Using all the above examples article explains how individual states have out India into an indirect pressure to call off valuable deals which would have ended up in a positive and fruitful outcome. At one point fighting against Sri Lanka would have put India into a collateral threat if Sri Lanka approached China or Bangladesh for support which is no way a good news for a country like ours who had been poor in maintaining peace with regions of conflict like Kashmir and internal Insurgency. Also signing a deal with America could have brought India more security over nuclear trade. Treaty for water with Bangladesh could have opened trade and commerce with neighboring country, which obviously would place north eastern states in a better position and resolving border issues with Pakistan with Gujarat could have given India better opportunity to explore unidentified resources.
Article derives to a logical conclusion that India should develop a federal foreign which would be similar to the one American has thus makings Her reforms independent of a state or a community. Keeping in mind that American senate systems is apt for USA but will be difficult to implement the same in India since ours is a country which is so reluctant for change and something like a senate system which is a centralized body is likely to happen. More than a mere immediate results, India and Her states should be matured enough to calculate the future relations with its enemies and allies. It was a suggestion that America's foreign policy could b taken as a basic model but of course India needs to develop Her own thus not hurting any regional or religious sentiments.
