Hindu : 1 Apr - Editorial : Clock is Ticking

This article is about the measures being taken by the US government before completely walking out of Afghanistan in 2014. It starts with the recent update of the US Army personnel handing over a prison to Afghan Military which is considered one of the dangerous prison in Afghanistan. US is not happy with the Afghan military releasing its prisoners in huge number which the US government believes could be a major threat in future. Then Author explains how U.S had been playing a significant role for the past 10 years in trying to bring peace in Afghanistan at a costly price.

Afghanistan has always been a place which was portrayed to the outside world as dangerous and notorious and U.S intrusion since the beginning in the name of law and world peace was put to question in many occasions.Following U.S there were many countries who entered Afghanistan to suppress Taliban's Tyranny over its people. Though US has finally decided to move out of Afghanistan, it had asked few of them to remain back in Afghanistan to train Afghan Army. Author doubts Afghan Army's capability in standing against the mighty army of Taliban who were responsible for at least 30,000 lives of highly trained US army personnel.More over Nato's operation to weaken Taliban army was of little help as most of the times the Nato's operation was a statistical failure and its the innocent Afghan civilians who lost their lives in those attacks thus losing the support even from Afghan Locals.

Author how ever feels that it is necessary for U.S to undo the pain it had caused to over the years in Afghanistan and moving out at these time when Afghanistan is in actual need of help is not the right choice. Author expects that the Afghan army should be trained well enough to face the Talibans without sense of fear and losing the war.Only then it would be wise for U.S to leave this god forsaken country but not in time where they were to leave only because the deadline had to be met.
